karebaindonesia.id – Alhamdulillah kemarin, Ahad 6 Juni, saya dapat telpon dari seorang warga di kota New York. Beliau menyampaikan jika ada seseorang (Wanita) yang ingin tahu/belajar Islam. Saya anjurkan ke rumah saja karena saya tidak bisa meninggalkan rumah saat itu.
Beliau setuju. Tapi beliiau juga sampaikan bahwa Wanita itu akan datang bersama pacarnya. Beliaupun bertanya apakah saya membolehkannya datang dengan pacarnya?.
Saya jawab “Iya boleh. Silahkan saja”. Tapi saya lanjutkan “Jika nantinya saya Islamkan, mereka berdua sekalian saya nikahkan”.
Hal itu saya sampaikan sebab Saya tidak ingin Wanita tersebut masuk Islam, tapi justeru lelaki Muslim (pacar) itu yang mencontohkan hal yang tidak baik.
Walaupun awalnya justeru yang menolak dinikahkan mendadak adalah lelaki itu, akhirnya keduanya setuju. Wanita itu bahkan tidak saja ingin tahu dan belajar Islam. Justeru telah berniat untuk memeluk Islam sebagai jalan hidupnya yang baru.
Setelah mendengarkan penjelasan singkat tentang Islam, bahwa Islam itu adalah hidup dan memberikan makna atau nilai dalam hidup, juga penjelasan singkat mengenai enam rukun iman dan lima rukun Islam, sang Wanita itu mengucapkan syahadah.
Setelah resmi memeluk Islam, Wanita dan calon suaminya kemudian saya nikahkan. Pernikahan yang sangat sederhana, tapi tidak mengurangi nilai kesakralannya, dengan disaksikan keluarga dekat lelaki. Hadir di antaranya ayah dan Ibu, kakek dan nenek dan saudara-saudaranya).
Ternyata kedua mampelai ini secara akademis sangat sukses. Sandra, nama wanita itu sendiri adalah seorang Wanita campuran Mexico-China dan saat ini sedang menyelesaikan Ph.D di bidang Fisika di John Hopkins University Washington DC. Sedangkan suaminya adalah seorang keturunan Bangladesh dan juga seorang Ph.D di bidang fisika. Bahkan saat ini beliau bekerja di John Hopkins University sebagai researcher (peneliti) dalam ilmu fisika.
