Jeneponto, karebaindonesia.id – Tim pengabdian masyarakat Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Hasanuddin yang diketuai oleh Dr. Ir. Sri Purwanti, S.Pt., M.Si., IPM., ASEAN Eng. dengan anggota tim Muhammad Rachman Hakim, S.Pt., M.P dan Ilham Syarif, S.Pt., M.Si. kembali melakukan kegiatan bertajuk Demonstrasi Budidaya Maggot. Demonstrasi ini dipandu langsung oleh Ilham Syarif, S.Pt., M.Si sebagai moderator dengan menghadirkan Rusdiansyah, S.Pt., M.Si. sebagai narasumber pada 2 September 2021.

Kegiatan ini merupakan kegiatan lanjutan yang telah dilaksanakan bulan juni lalu. Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini bekerja sama dengan kelompok tani ternak didesa Barana dan organisasi kepemudaan Pemuda Pemudi Julukanayya (KPJ).
 
Dr. Ir. Sri Purwanti, S.Pt., M.Si., IPM., ASEAN Eng. dalam pengantarnya mengatakan bahwa latar belakang dilakukannya demonstrasi ini karena banyaknya peternak di desa Barana yang mengeluh mengenai mahalnya pakan komersial. Salah satu yang dapat menjadi solusi untuk menggantikan pakan komersial ini adalah maggot. Maggot ini merupakan salah satu jenis belatung yang diperoleh dari larva lalat (Black Soldier Fly) yang dapat dijadikan sebagai salah satu pakan ternak yang kaya akan protein.
 
Sementara itu Rusdiansyah, S.Pt., M.Si. menjelaskan bahwa budidaya maggot baru dikenal 3 tahun terkahir sehingga dapat menjadi sebuah solusi untuk mengurangi biaya pakan ternak. Selain itu maggot juga bisa dicampurkan dengan bahan pakan lain seperti ampas tahu, dedak dan jagung.
 
Setelah proses diskusi selesai, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan demostrasi pembuatan kandang untuk maggot mulai dari pembuatan kandang untuk tempat berkembangbiak hingga kandang pembesaran.
 
Setelah kegiatan berakhir, tim pengabdian masyarakat berharap agar kelompok tani ternak di Desa Barana dapat melanjutkan budidaya maggot ini. Tim pengabdian masyarakat juga siap memberi pendampingan lebih lanjut jika budidaya ini menunjukkan progress yang baik kedepannya.
